Member Updates: Ukraine hosts 3rd Silk Road Forum to strengthen cooperation with China

The 3rd Ukraine Silk Road Forum was held on November 16 in Kiev, Ukraine, bringing together about 800 officials, representatives of the business community and public figures from China and Ukraine.

 

The forum, which was organized by the Ukrainian association of Belt and Road cooperation "Silk Link," is aimed at strengthening cooperation between China and Ukraine through closer business ties.

 

Addressing the event, Iryna Lutsenko, Ukrainian president's representative in the parliament, said that Ukraine attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with China and stands ready to deepen all-round cooperation.

 

At the forum, the representatives of Chinese and Ukrainian businesses discussed a wide range of topics, including the development of the infrastructure along the Belt and Road, energy, investment, financial technologies and e-commerce. Besides, several documents were signed during the forum.

 

In addition, "Silk Link" has signed a memo with the Ukrainian Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Iryna Nikorak, the head of "Silk Link," said that the Ukrainian business is also willing to implement joint projects with Chinese partners in Ukraine.

 

Also during the forum, mayors of Ukrainian cities discussed prospects for cooperation with cities from other countries along Belt and Road.

 

BACKGROUND INFO

 

On 7 November 2016, SRCIC held the 1st Silk Road Forum in Kyiv Ukraine. The first lady of Ukraine, President of Poroshenko Charity Foundation Marina Poroshenko, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anton Gerashchenko, Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of China-Ukraine Inter-governmental Cooperation Committee and other Ukraine Government officials attended the meeting.

 

During the forum, SRCIC, Ukraine Silk Link, Ukraine House and Center for Contemporary China “Tian Xia Link” signed the cooperative agreement. In collaboration with Ukraine-China Friendship Association, Silk Road Sunshine Fund donated UAH5.2 million, USD200000, to Poroshenko Charity Foundation for the undertaking of the disabled and Silk Road Sunshine has an education project to sponsor 30 Ukraine students to study in Xian China.
