SRCIC Vice Chairman and Secretary General at Global Silk Road Forum in Kazakhstan

On July 3, 2018, Cities Mayor Forum “Global Silk Road” initiated by Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev was successfully held in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan. 2000 participants from 60 counties including over 70 mayors and representatives from international associations, chambers of commerce and industry as well as scholars attended the forum.

 

The forum is a commemorative event for celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 20th anniversary of Astana becoming the capital of Kazakhstan. The participants exchanged ideas on 16 topics including smart cities, business travel, sustainable development, block chains, logistics, reginal integration and business interaction and some more. Over 30 mayors attended the Round Table of Mayors and 10 mayors delivered special presentations. Mr. Gao Gao, Deputy Mayor of Xi’an city introduced Xi'an - the starting point of ancient Silk Road - to the audience.

Mr. Li Zhonghang, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC) was invited to give a keynote speech at the Plenary Session and themed speech at the Prospects for Regional Integration and Business Interaction of the Countries of the Silk Road panel session.

Mr. Li expressed in his speech that Kazakhstan was the country where Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road Initiative, and was one of the most important supporters for the Belt and Road construction. The Bright Road Initiative raised by H.E. Nazarbayev was in accordance with the Belt and Road Initiative; therefore, the two countries have great potential in cooperation. Mr. Li also pointed out the importance of collaboration among cities, and emphasized SRCIC was a positive platform for cities to expand the collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative.

In his speech at the panel of Integration and Business Interaction of the countries of the Silk Road, Mr. Li said that the Belt and Road Initiative could not only be seen as a new power against anti-globalization, but also a platform for sharing social development experience and achievement. All parties should join hands to facilitate regional integration and business interaction under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Mr. Li also had friendly meetings with Filonova Marina Vladimirovna, Director General of Gomel Branch of Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Igor Runov, Executive Secretary of International Center for Transport Diplomacy USA, Kigizbaev Almaz, Manager of International Institute of Logistics and Business (Kazakhstan), and Khussey Daurov, Head of Kazakhstan Dungan Association.

During the forum, Mr. Li also accepted interviews with CGTN, Economic TV station (Italy), Uzbekistan TV station and other international news media, elaborating his understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative and the pivotal role of SRCIC in the Belt and Road construction.
